HANS KLOTZ HEADQUARTERS

A sculptural monolith

2009
headquarters

The family business Hans Klotz GmbH has its headquarters in Sigmundskron on the outskirts of the city of Bolzano. The traditional company supplies food companies worldwide with high-quality fruit and vegetables from Italy.

The new company headquarters was integrated into an already existing structure. As an artistic gesture, the volume sits on top of the existing building and protrudes from the surrounding orchards like a polyhedral sculpture. The structure takes up the main outlines of the existing building and opens to the north-west onto the landscape. Enclosed in a clearly defined shell of bronze metal plates, the building has a resemblance to a cut gemstone. The alternation of full and empty spaces results in a dynamic volume. The company headquarters can be reached via an elegant open staircase taking up the lines of the outer shell and continuing them downwards.

A large terrace welcomes visitors and offers employees the opportunity to relax. In addition to the reception area, the first floor houses two open-plan offices. Views of the surrounding landscape with its orchards are a metaphorical return to the company’s origins. On the upper floor there is a small bar area, a meeting room and the offices of the management. A private roof terrace with a direct view of Sigmundskron Castle completes the space.
